My dog is such a jerk sometimes

Riddle me this: How is it that a 20", 10 pound dog can walk me around over 2 acres of prime pooping real estate, and choose to do this instead of poop?:

Incidentally, he is rolling over the carcass of a dead crawfish. He's all about rolling around in dead stuff. Especially if he's just had a bath...

And THEN he comes inside, goes straight to my professional clean only wool rug and poops on it for the 900th time? That dog is such a jerk sometimes!

Aww, but he's such a cute jerk!

My answer to that was baby gates. But they are almost as big a pain as the poop on the carpet.

Perhaps he thinks your carpet is a dead sheep.

He is cute.
But I would probably think he was less cute if he pooped on my carpet.
Maybe it's a territorial thing...
Maybe if you.....nevermind......

Haha. Nice one, Candy. Joey peed on my rug today...any advice for that??

Uh....I've heard that this is typical of these breeds - which is why I have Bozley the mut. Consult the dog whiperer...

MY dog is always looking for new chew toys.

PS I thought everything was bigger in Texas. How small is that dog when you leave the state?

Beth - Well, I think rubbing his nose in it and hitting him with a rolled up newspaper is out of the question...Oh wait, that question was for Candy. Sorry.

Nick - shut up.

Gotta go make some 2nd grade musical backdrop magic!

@Beth - two words. Green Machine.

Katdish, just as he's about to poop, could you scream "Timmy's in the well!!!" and perhaps that would distract him?

OK, so none of you get that. It's so 50's. You guys don't know what you missed being born so late.

@Annie - isn't a dog "whiperer" a little cruel? Or did you catch a little sherriosis over the weekend?

@Candace - I laughed out loud at the "Timmy's in the Well!" comment. Even if I AM too young to remember it. ;)

Also, I think Annie was onto something with the "dog whiperer." It could be an automatic dog wiping machine. That chases the dog all over the house after he poops on the rug. Not necessarily helpful, but goldarn entertaining.

In all seriousness, two words: DOG CRATE. If he's out of your sight, he lives in the crate.

Of course I don't have much credibility now, do I? With a geriatric dog who forgets where she is and poops in the hallway. Unfortunately, the crate won't work for her cuz she's so arthritic that she'd be unable to turn around in it.

Candy, just like you, we have all seen Lassie in reruns. But from Katdish's description of her dog, he is more of a MiniMarley than a Lassie, no?

I am allergic to dogs, so I have no advice whatsoever.

Have you considered a cork in the butt? The dog's, not yours. *snicker*

I still think she should "claim the territory" for herself, if you know what I mean.....

Considering that he has been known to dig for snacks in the litter box, I don't know that pooping on the rug would be anything more than another treat for him. At least he doesn't pee in the house. Well, I take that back. He peed on a Hannah Montana sleeping bag, but that sleeping bag was left on the floor of my living room -- it had it coming...

my roommate's dog looks exactly like that. her name is sadie, and the day i got to Arizona she pooped on my bare bedroom carpet.

ugh...I have two of these poopers who are even bigger. Try potty training puppies on the third floor of a building. They make me so angry because I take them out every single morning where they just sit beside me like idiots as if they don't have to go, and then as soon as we walk in the house...they poo on the floor!! Are they dumb...or just having fun with me? I can't decide.

I have a large dog. He is a lab mixed with something tall and skinny. In fact, if I were a dog when I was a teenager I would have looked just like my dog. Weird.

Normally he is really good, but for some reason he has had 3 accidents in the past few days. He is back in his crate unless closely supervised. Poop on my floor and you go in the hole.

Aww. Well, it's his nature anyway. I guess you just have to put up with it, or maybe move the rug some places else where he couldn't reach, let's say upstairs or something. You could try making him walk outside when he starts to get jumpy and all.
