Just admit it, folks

We've gone half a day not posting anything here. I think that's some kind of record. So here's a little picture that I found fitting for this blog:

It's from a website that kinda mocks the Emergent Church movement. Some of the other posters are fun, some are meh.

But I liked this one, cuz it's funny (and true), I don't care WHO ya are.

You know, I went over there and looked at most of those posters. You're right, the first few are funny, but then I started getting this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I know I do the PG rant on occassion, but I don't get the warm fuzzies when it seems like someone's mission is simply to tear someone else down.

Bottom line for me - you only know that a line is crooked if you've seen a straight line. The bible is that straight line for me. And while I don't buy in to much of the emerging/emergent church woo-ha, to suggest that someone like Rob Bell has absolutely nothing to add to the discussion is akin to throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I've seen a few Nooma videos that I found to be very powerful and thought provoking. They didn't change my basic belief in what I know from scripture, but they were challenging.

Wow. Didn't mean to write a blog post there. I blame Jon Acuff. Why? I don't know...

I knew you'd go read 'em all. You're always up for a good mocking.

But I agree with you - a lot leaned toward mean-spirited. Also mocked the extremes. I'm all about mocking people when I know I'm mocking the same quality in myself. (eg redneckness) But when someone is essentially saying, "I thank God I'm not like those hypocritical Emergents!" I think they're treading on dangerous ground.

I DID like the monkey community poster tho. Can't have too many scary monkeys, is what I always say.

He needed blamin'--that's a valid defense, I don't care who you are.

I've been to that site too. I giggled, I groaned, I blogged about it on my church's website. They didn't think they were funny. Oh well.

BTW, I'm tired of pretending I'm not crazy either. I had no idea I could call that "Authenticity". I thought I had to call it "My prescription ran out". Who knew??

PS-I should point out I was a member of an emergent church at the time. They were the ones who didn't find the posters funny.

I, too, am tired of pretending I am not crazy.
Today, at the grocery store, while I was salsaing to Marc Anthony in the canned vegetable aisle, they interrupted him for an announcement of what the new sale items are, and then came back to Huey Lewis and the News's "Do You Believe in Love". I got even. I ran up and down the aisles holding my hands up charasmatic style and said "YES! I DO BELIEVE IN LOVE! POUR IT DOWN HUEY! POUR IT DOWN!.
I'm sure that will be the last time Marc Anthony is interrupted at THAT Jewel....

I never pretend I'm not crazy. Seriously the only reason I haven't been committed is because I work with youth so everyone figures that my personality is either because I work with Youth or a God given personality in order to work with Youth ... the second might be possible since I was like this before the Youth but I have less inhibitions now because I know I can get away with loading a half a bag of skittles into an air cannon and yelling "taste the rainbow" before making it rain.

I think Jon must have felt that last statement in the force somehow because I referenced skittles and making it rain, two of his top go to phrases.

I keep looking at the picture thinking that the girl looks kinda like she is in a movie or should be in a movie then it occurred to me. She should be Harley Quin in the next Batman movie. Seriously look at her and tell me she wouldn't be the best for that.

So long as Emo Monkey isn't showing us his butt piercing, I'm good.
