I find it comforting to know that I can pop popcorn even if I don't happen to have a microwave handy. Too bad we have to turn off our cell phones in Church.

I did a mythbuster night at church a couple of months ago where I tested several internet myths. I knew most were just that including this one. I had 4 people put down their cell phones and 4 people call but no pop action. Then I showed a clip where they bust the myth and show how it can be achieved digitally. Some people say you take the pat of the microwave that creates the microwaves out to make it happen but those videos aren't even showing the right part of the microwave.

Nick- I hope you are right. This is scary. I'm gonna try it myself to be certain.

I need my own signal that can shine across the blog land skies. For whenever a geek is needed I will be there to fix your blog.

sherri,

I am right, not only did I test it but I researched the reason it fails. Basically the energy output of the cell phone can't vaporize the water in the popcorn by a long shot.

Thanks, Nick. makes up for raining on my parade about the dang popcorn. All I wanted was 4 kernels...

My hubs, me, our daughter and her friends tried it this a few months ago. We felt like morons when we realized it didn't work ;) God bless the internet...

So...it's a myth? Well that stinks, cuz sometimes all I really want is 4 pieces of popcorn.
