He Gave His Life for Tourism.....

This was peeking through Nick's post. This was always my favorite skit. Yes, I was six at the time. I did not normally watch SNL., but my cool cousin Rick loved this song, and I loved everything my cool cousin Rick did. So mom and dad let me stay up to watch this skit, then sent me off to bed. I guess my parents were cooler than I thought...
Also this is the first record I ever had that was not from "The Little White Duck" variety....

"When I die, now don't think I'm a nut. Don't want no fancy funeral, just one like old King Tut!"

Steve Martin was so cutting edge back in the day. I remember seeing him on SNL, too! Good times.

P.S. - I've been blogging for coming up on a year. This blog has almost as many posts as Hey Look a Chicken.

I just want to say that I missed out on the Steve Martin days of SNL. I didn't get into it till Chris Farley. Not because I am super holy like you might be led to believe, but because of my age.

What are you doing for your blogoversary, kat? Are we having a PAR-TAAAY???

Steve Martin is awesome. And there will never be a SNL like "back in the day" - Jane Curtin, Roseanne Rosannadanna, Julia Luis-Dreyfuss..all those goodies. And I'm partial to Gary Kroeger, only because he's a friend of mine. Yeah, I'm name dropping. He's a sweetheart.

So now you know, I'm the oldest person on here. Don't be givin' me no stink-eye for that.

Nick, way to make some of us feel older than King Tut himelf.

Candy, no one will give you the stink eye for that. We all love knowing we aren't the oldest person here. Especially Nick and Beth. Why do you think they keep rubbing it in?

Mostly to make myself feel younger since my ministry group averages half my age.

PS Kat I went to see how many posts I have and found I just put my 150th up this morning.

I am at 161 posts on my blog. I haven't been doing postal counts. I linked to my first blog on my anniversary date of blogging (February 3), but that was mainly because I wanted to be lazy and link to my first post.
Do you think we have too many posts? I kind of like things as they are, with each of us building on each other's post like this. But then I would..I am the Random One.

What is Nick...25? I can't hang here if he is. That just makes me feel bad about myself and my lack of a "2" in my age...

I love King Tut. They play it on the 70's Siruis/XM station alot. I crank it and annoy my kids. "Got a condo made of stone-a"....good stuff, good stuff.

Marni,

As of last October I no longer have a two in my age ... not for a couple years at least.

Helen,

I thought I was the random one.

Marni, don't feel bad about yourself. Age is just a number. Some of us just have higher numbers than others.

Nick, I thought you were the Geeky One. Me random. You geeky.

I loved SNL back then! I don't watch it anymore...if it's still on..idk. I swear to you I had Rosanna Rosanna Danna hair when I was 12...no lie lol

I have just started DVRing the show again because I think watching those skits is helping me get ideas for the Youth.

Our youth pastor used to have the Spartan Cheerleader SNL skits to kick off some of his sermons. My fave was the night we were talking about sex and he used these skits:

Arf, arf, arf, arf!
Chihuahua, small dog
Chihuahua, small dog
Introduce yourself:

Arf! I'm Arianna
The boys are urgin'
But I am proud
To stay a virgin!

Chihuahua, small dog
Chihuahua, small dog
Introduce yourself:

Arf! My name is Craig
I give good hugs
You're not my friend
If you do drugs!

Arf! Small dog!!

AND

Okay..uh..um...my name is Arianna and I’m just like Mary Tyler Moore except I don’t have a Jewish friend. Um, I’m coming to terms with my small chest. And despite my bike accident I’m still technically a virgin. (Jumping up and down)

Sex can wait! Masterbate!

We used to do a variety-esque type show at our former church called Sunday Night Live. It ruled. We led the youth then, too. We had a nice running series called the Possum Hunter modeled after the Croc Hunter. Frank and I did a nice rip off of the music teachers sketch of SNL, too. We managed to work in Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, and We Are the World in one big musical bang. Hmmm....we might have that on tape somewhere...that would be good blackmail material...

By the way I'm clinging to that 2 for the next 6 months!!
